Dear friends of The Impulse Powers,

After many, many months hiding out in a dark, airless “studio” (basement), I’m very excited to tell you that my new album “The Deep” is done, and coming out in just a couple of weeks!

For any of you who haven’t heard me witter on about this project over the last year or more, it’s 9 songs all set in two massive voids – the deep ocean and deep space. I try to put myself into the minds of two characters that survive in these places: a blue whale and the Voyager 1 space probe.

They are very alien beings to us of course, but I’ve become fascinated by them. They live in profound isolation, and in incredibly arduous conditions, as we would see it. But they still endure, and (as I envisage them) they even have their own desires and joys and energy to move them.

The album should be available to stream everywhere from early October, but as friends of mine,

I’d like to invite you to hear the album early, at a listening party on Sunday 28th Sept at 8pm (UK time)! 

For anyone who’s not been to an online listening party like this before (and I’m one of them, by the way), you should be able to just click on the link above to RSVP and do a quick (free!) sign-up to Bandcamp.

Then just come back a little before 8pm (UK time) on 28th Sept, and on the hour the album will begin to play from start to finish*. 

There’ll be a text chat for anyone who’d like to make a comment, or give any reaction (but please don’t feel you have to!), and I’ll be there to reply as things come up. I’m also planning to give a little more detail on the specific songs, as the play-through happens.

This has been easily the most complicated musical production I’ve done, but I’ve genuinely loved making the album, so I hope you will find things to enjoy in it.
